That is FELLOWS — the new vinyl figure from KAWS. And the drop is today.

What FELLOWS actually shows
The figure is not a new character. It is a mashup of three existing ones. The body belongs to BFF — without a head. In its hands it holds the head of Companion. And it stands on a severed arm from Chum.
Every KAWS marker is present: the crossed-out X eyes, oversized cartoon hands and feet, the fur-like modeled surface. The red circle at the top is the only color element in the black version — which is exactly why it lands so hard.
Conceptually it ties back to early work in which KAWS pitted his own characters against each other. FELLOWS is the aftermath: what is left over.
Why the hype works
At 96 dollars this is not about price. It is about access.
KAWS typically sells his KAWSONE figures during a fixed window rather than as a numbered edition. That sounds like "available to everyone," but in practice it is the opposite: servers buckle, queues overflow, payments fail. If you do not get through in the first few minutes, you are out. And from minute fifteen onward the whole thing only continues on the secondary market, at prices that have nothing to do with 96 dollars anymore.
Then there is the context. KAWS has been near-constantly present in 2026 — moving between an MLB collection and an announced takeover of the New York Botanical Garden in 2027, he lives between the shelf and the institution. The vinyl figures are the cheapest ticket into a world whose upper floor sits at seven-figure sculptures. That is precisely what makes them so wanted.
The catch nobody likes to mention
Open edition means there is no number. No numbering, no certificate reading "14 of 50." How many FELLOWS end up existing is known only to the producer.
And vinyl is an injection-molded material. One mold, thousands of identical casts, machine painting. That is not an accusation — it is exactly the technique that makes this price point possible at all. But it also means your figure is one hundred percent identical to every other one. There is no hand in it.
The second point is less comfortable: few figures are counterfeited as heavily as KAWS. Buying on the secondary market after a drop carries real risk — packaging, base stamping, surface texture and weight are checkpoints, but even experienced collectors get it wrong.

- Did a human being make this by hand?

Vinyl or resin — which is better?
Neither. They do different things:
- Vinyl is light, robust, cheap at volume and perfect for mass editions. Value comes from the name and demand, not from the object.
- Resin is heavy, detail-faithful, more expensive to produce and only viable in small runs. Value comes from edition size, material and craftsmanship.
If you want market movement, buy KAWS. If you want an object few people own, buy from a small studio.
